For the first time in his career, Menyh\u00e9rt Kr\u00f3zser will compete in the FIA World Karting Championship, in the most prestigious OK category, the predecessor of which was first declared world champion in 1964. The 14-year-old HUMDA Academy driver is looking forward to this year’s biggest event in very good form. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This year’s biggest event in karting, the FIA World Karting Championship<\/a> (OK and OKJ) will be held in Sarno, Italy, from 15-18 September. Unlike the FIA European Championship, which is a four-race series, the World Championship will be held over a single weekend. <\/span><\/p>\n

The stakes are high as it is a very prestigious series. The world championship in the 100cc direct-drive category was first contested in 1964. In 2007, the engine was increased to 125cc and since 2016 it has been called OK, which stands for Original Kart, indicating that it is the category that dates back to the origins of kart racing. <\/span><\/p>\n

Many of the world champions in the OK category have gone on to Formula 1. Among them Riccardo Patrese, Jan Magnussen, Jarno Trulli and Vitantonio Liuzzi. And in the current Formula 1 field, there are two drivers who won world titles in the predecessor of the OK category (then called KF1 or KF). <\/span><\/p>\n

Nyck de Vries, who made a sensational debut for Williams in Monza last weekend, won the world title twice, in 2010 and 2011, while McLaren star Lando Norris won the world title in 2013. <\/span><\/p>\n

Menyh\u00e9rt Kr\u00f3zser, who will be racing with the help of HUMDA, Hungarian Motorsport and Green Mobility Development Agency will have a big task this weekend. The OK field has 94 entrants, which is unsurprisingly a record for this year. <\/span><\/p>\n

Menya has had a successful preparation, having tested in Sarno, the home of the World Championship, in July, and then competed for DPK Racing in an Italian championship race<\/a> there at the end of August. <\/span><\/p>\n

“I’m really looking forward to the world championship,” said Menyh\u00e9rt Kr\u00f3zser with characteristic calm. “Our preparation has been excellent. In the Italian championship race we had the pace right from the start and found the right set-up with DPK Racing. <\/span><\/p>\n

For me, this is my first season in the OK, and there are several experienced competitors, but the reason why this race is called the FIA World Championship is that everyone who counts is here. <\/span><\/p>\n

I don’t want to put any extra pressure on myself, I’m treating this weekend like any other race I’ve ever done, so I’m going to do my best and fight for every single position. <\/span><\/p>\n

I think it’s going to be a good race, it will be worth following.”<\/p>\n
