Menyhért Krózser against world and European champions

Never before has Menyhért Krózser had to prove himself against so many world, European and Italian champions as he faced the strongest field of his career in the third round of the WSK Super Master Series. But the Brilliant Driver Program driver was not to be outdone, finishing 5th in his qualifying group.

The KZ category is the pinnacle of kart racing, where it is not uncommon to see someone with up to twenty years of experience. This is why the category is divided into two groups, KZ and KZ2. The former is for experienced and successful drivers – such as former KZ2 world and European champions – while KZ2 is basically a junior category. It is rare for KZ and KZ2 to compete in the same field, but where they do, fans are treated to a real fireworks display.

That was the case in Franciacorta, at the third round of the WSK Super Master Series, where a record 85 drivers entered KZ2 (the name of the merged category). But not only were there many, there were strong ones, with an unusual number of former world, European and Italian champions taking part.

Menyhért Krózser, as usual, was happy for the challenge and the chance to test his skills against the best in kart racing. In the qualifying he put in a good effort and finished 5th in his group and 13th overall.

During the heats he had a clutch failure which meant his starts were not perfect, but he still managed three top 9s. In the second heat, however, he was pushed out and finished last. This left a big stamp on his performance, as he lost 15 places in the heats and finished 29th.

In the semi-final and the final, he was hampered by a brake failure, but he improved his position both times – as we have come to expect from him – and finished the final in 25th place.

“This was the strongest field I’ve ever raced in,” said Menyhért Krózser, “I know and love the Franciacorta circuit, and I was very prepared for this weekend.

The qualifying went well. 15th place among so many world and European champions is a very good result, I think. Especially when you consider that I had rivals who were already competing in this category when I started karting. You can imagine how much experience they have, but that’s why it was a challenge to race against them.

I was really annoyed when they knocked me out in the second heat, with a totally incomprehensible manoeuvre. I lost a lot with that, if I could have done the same result as in the other heats, I could have finished 14th or 15th.

In the heats I had a clutch problem which held me back at the start and on Sunday the brakes didn’t work properly.

All in all, I feel that I made the most of the weekend, there is a lot of room for improvement in such a tough environment with such opponents. I will be even better in two weeks.”

The WSK Super Master Series concludes 1-3 March at one of Menyhért Krózser’s favourite courses, Sarno.
