Menyhért Krózser: Crazy heats and balanced performance

Menyhért Krózser’s performance in the KZ2 category is becoming more and more balanced, where he has to compete against very experienced opponents. The Trofeo Andrea Margutti, held during the WSK season break, was even more competitive than usual.

Now in its 35th edition, the Trofeo Andrea Margutti is a tribute to the once-promising kart racer. Although it is not a championship race, it is a prestigious event in Italy, where former Renault and Ferrari Formula 1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella has won four times, making him the record holder.

It’s rare that a major international race has the most drivers in the KZ2 category, but that’s what happened at this year’s Trofeo. There were 72 entries, most of them drivers known from the WSK and FIA events.

As a result, the heat was already on in qualifying. There was a lot of spinning on the track and it was difficult to get a clean lap. Menyhért Krózser had to pass a rival on his fastest lap, but still finished 6th in his group and 12th overall.

But the really crazy racing only started then. The participants fought like it was the world championship. Menya managed to improve his position in all three heats, and in the semi-final he started from P9. He was coming up and was even fighting for a third row start in the final when he was hit so unlucky from the outside that he dropped in his front spoiler, for which he was penalised, and finished 17th.

He started from this position in the final and finished 13th, improving three positions.

“It was a good race,” said Menyhért Krózser, “I’m not satisfied with the final result, there was more in the qualifying and in the semi-final I didn’t miss the spoiler failure.

Apart from these, I’m getting more and more balanced in my performance and I’m working more and more effectively with the team. In KZ2, a result depends on very small details. We’ve found them quite well now and I think it’s great that with a few weekends of experience behind me I can compete with the guys with four or five or even ten years of KZ2 experience.

It would have been nice to take home a trophy from this prestigious race, but next time.”
