Menyhért Krózser takes second place in the German championship

In a very short period of time, in just five international races, Menyhért Krózser reached the top of the KZ2 category, the pinnacle of kart racing. The MHH Kart Team driver scored a second and a fourth place in the final weekend of the German Kart Championship (DKM). This is also the best international KZ2 result for Hungarian karting this year.

One week ago, after the Trofeo delle Industrie, Menyhért Krózser said that all he needed was a good qualification and he would got his first serious KZ2 result. He was true to his word, as he finished the final weekend of the German Karting Championship in Franciacorta, Italy, in absolute top of the standings.

In the 36-strong KZ2 field, which included this year’s world champion, he finished 7th in qualifying and was 5th after the two heats. In the German championship, there will be no semi-finals and final, but two separate races on Sunday.

Menya started from fifth place in  race 1 and fought his way up to a very respectable 2nd place. Only the world champion could bit him. In race 2, he was able to start from the front row, but the track was drying up and there was only one racing line on the slick tyres, so it was needed a rider error to overtake. Menya finished 4th.

The German team providing the technical back-up was extremely satisfied with its performance. They also pointed out that it is rare to be at the top of the class after only five major international KZ2 races.

“I rarely say this, but I’m happy with my performance this weekend and of course I’m very happy with the results. To be second behind the defending world champion is not bad in my opinion,” laughed Menyhért Krózser.

It was already obvious last week at the Trofeo delle Industrie that I had the pace. There, the qualifying was bad in the heavy rain, but I knew already then that if I have a good qualification, I will get the result.

We didn’t test before the race in Franciacorta. Because the track was still wet at the first entries, we didn’t have the perfect dry set-up for qualifying. We even fine tuned it in the heats.

For the first race it rained again, which I really like. By the second one, the track started to dry up, but we had choose slicks. But if you went off the racing line, the asphalt was still wet and you didn’t have any grip.

I am very happy with my second and fourth places. I hope to add to my trophies this year.”
