Menyhért Krózser is getting more and more encouraging results in the KZ2 karting category. In the prestigious Trofeo delle Industrie, he was fourth fastest in his group in free practice, but also showed his skills in two heats.
﹡ Trofeo delle Industrie, South Garda Karting, Lonato (Italy), 19-22 October 2023.
More than a month after the World Championship in September, Menyhért Krózser was back in action for only the fourth international KZ2 weekend of his career. This category is the pinnacle of kart racing, where karts are equipped with gearboxes and front brakes, and, like in formula racing, has a standing start.
Menya has already achieved some encouraging results in KZ2, but it was at Lonato in Italy where he showed that he is truly up to the top. He was fourth fastest in his group in both free practice sessions.
The qualifying session saw a brutal downpour of rain, which Menya generally likes, but this time he got stuck behind a slower driver and overtaking was made difficult by the water spray. He finished 18th in his group and 35th overall in a field of 49.
In heat 1 he got a good start and finished 7th, improving ten places overall. In heat 2 at the start he had a crash in front of him, which he could only avoid on the grass. He lost several positions, but his pace was good and he still improved five places from his starting position.
He was hit at the start of the heat 3, which twisted his frame, so the only thing he could do was hold his position.
In both the semi-final and final he was in a very difficult position, as above 20th place he was in the grinding part of the field, where it is very difficult to run a clean lap and improve position. He finished 22nd in the semi-final and 24th in the final. But more importantly, he gained a lot of experience and had the pace to build on for the next races.
“The weekend started very well,” said Menyhért Krózser. Unfortunately, qualifying didn’t go well in the heavy rain. In KZ2 everyone turns very tight in the corners, it’s much harder to overtake.
Heat 1 was good, heat 2 was good too, considering I avoided the accident on the grass. But in heat 3, my frame was already twisted at the start.
In the semi-final and the final, 22nd-24th place, you get so caught up in the grind that it’s hard to get a good result from there.
Nevertheless, there were many positives to take from the weekend. I can see that my pace is there, I need a better qualifying in the next race and then I’ll be fine.”
