Menyhért Krózser debuts on podium in KZ2

Menyhért Krózser won both the time trial and the semi-final in the first KZ2 race of his career, in the second round of the Hungarian Championship, the Dakar Ring in Hajdúhadháza. In the final he had to climb up after a false start, but still finished the weekend in third place.

After a short test, MHH Kart Team immediately threw Menyhért Krózser into the deep and gave him a go in the KZ2 category.

Menya made the switch from OK Junior to OK category just over a year and a half ago, and in just a few months he managed to master the category to the point where he achieved a solid result in the World Championship. In order to improve, his team decided to move him up to the KZ2 category.

For OK, this means a more complex kart. The chassis is not significantly different, but it has a more powerful engine, which allows it to go from zero to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds. The big difference is that while the OK is direct drive, you have to deal with a six-speed gearbox and brakes on the front wheels, so you have to learn how to adjust the brake force distribution, for example.

Menya had a short test in Kecskemét to familiarise himself with the KZ2 category, where he got used to the new challenge so quickly that he was ready for the next step – the real race. The second round of the Hungarian championship was chosen for this. As Menya did not compete in the full Hungarian championship, the only aim was to gain experience.

This went so well that he won both the time trial and the semi-final in the ten-driver KZ2. In the final he was left standing at the start and dropped back to last place, from where he fought his way up to 6th. In the superfinal, his tyre pressure in the rain proved to be too much and caused his kart to slide, but he still improved two positions to 4th. In the overall results for the weekend he finished 3rd.

“I went to the race with a minimal test,” said Menyhért Krózser.

“The KZ2 is a more complex task, but I can use my previous experience in many areas. I had no problems with the pace and overtaking. I won the qualifying and the semi-final.

But the standing start was new. I had previously only competed in a category with a flying start.

In the final I felt I had put it into first, but the gears were just so set that it didn’t engage, so I left my kart in neutral and stayed stationary. I came up from last place to 6th. And in the final we had a high tyre pressure.

After the race I practiced my start, I don’t think I’ll have any more problems with that.

I really like the KZ2, it’s faster than the OK and I think every rider likes to go fast.

My next KZ2 race is also a test race, I want to have a flawless weekend there and then move on to a stronger international field.”
