Menyhért Krózser takes it to the next level: testing KZ2

For the first time in his career, Menyhért Krózser tested a KZ2 kart. The six-speed KZ2, with brakes on both axles, is considered the pinnacle of FIA karting. But the HUMDA Academy driver was unperturbed and even surprised his own team, the MHH Kart Team, by how quickly he got to grips with the new technology.

Last year Menyhért Krózser switched from OK Junior to OK with a more powerful engine. This year’s plans include several OK races, but it is now essential for his development as a racer that he tries his hand in a higher category, KZ2.

KZ2 is a huge step up from OK. Not only is the engine more powerful, but the karts are now equipped with a six-speed gearbox instead of direct drive. So this is the category where young racers first encounter gearboxes.

Also new for them is the fact that the front axle now has brakes, so they can take shorter braking distances, but they also have to learn how to adjust the distribution of braking force. In any case, driving a KZ2 go-kart is a much more serious task than driving an OK.

That is why the MHH Kart Team organised a familiarisation test for Menyhért Krózser back in April. To take the first steps, it was enough to travel to the track in Kecskemét. Here, however, Menya surprised even his own team with the ease with which he jumped the category change.

“I’ve been looking forward to trying the KZ2,” said Menya Krózser, “It’s a more serious task to drive a kart like this than even the OK, but because it’s faster it’s also a much more fun experience.

The team didn’t have any expectations on the test, they just asked me to try to get used to it. That went pretty quickly. I really enjoyed the short braking distance and how quickly you can start to accelerate out of corners.

I think I have the basics down with the KZ2. I would need a more serious test before the first race, but if someone said to me now that I could race a KZ2 tomorrow, I would say yes straight away.”
